Momento Nostalgia: CB 450 Cafe Racer

Fica a dica!

  2. What year of CB450 is this, and from what market? It's a pity they converted the COMSTAR wheels to wire-spoke, 'cause first of all I LOVE COMSTAR WHEELS, and secondly it was entirely unnecessary being that it's a drum rear hub and a single-disc front where you might just as well have used a CB750K-zabc (DOHC-4) 5-bolt single-disc front hub, or any of the SOHC-4 front wheels in the six-bolt dual-disc category (296mm rotors from CB750K & CB500, CB450 etc, 276mm rotors from CB550 & GL1000 Gold-Wing!) - And more to the AWESOME point if you were really LUCKY to get to it before THIS guy does, there's ALSO the rare Unobtainium Canadian/Filipino only Police only, or-or-two-year-ONLY, CB750P7 CB750P7-II or CB750P8 front hub - WHICH is a dual-disc 40-spoke FIVE-bolt hub which you could think of as either a 5-bolt version of the CB750K/GL1000 front hub OR as a dual-disc version of the DOHC-4 CB750K front hub, EITHER which way it would've worked with any of the DOHC-4 era's FIVE-bolt front rotors ala COMSTAR wheels - particularly the lightweight FT500 296mm dished or CB1100RB 296mm dished front rotors which are about as featherweight light as a period-correct 296mm Honda brake rotor or any other 296mm rotor for that matter - (((I suppose the REAR discs from '78 CBX & CB900FZ/CB750FZ etc which have a larger center "boss" hole & therefore are surely a little bit lighter than the front version ... then again it's got the larger diameter of the center "hub" area around the bolt circle etc))), OR the '77-'78 CB750A Hondamatic front rotor which is just like the CB750K SOHC-4 front discs but it's drilled to suit the COMSTAR front wheels, it's what I'd call a "middleweight" version of the 5-bolt 296mm rotors, especially compared to another 9-rivet 5-bolt front disc the CB1100RC/CB1100RD/GL1100A double-thick vented 296mm front rotors. Now THEY'RE some heavy discs! Honestly, if you sold off your COMSTAR HUB CONVERSION KIT, you'd be able to afford all SORTS of good upgrades to your rear drum & front single-disc front, hubs! Maybe even get back the TUBE-LESS ALUMINUM RIMS which you so thoughtlessly discarded??? -SIGH.
